Product Description:
Kalanchoe pumila is a species of flowering plant in the Crassulaceae family. This succulent shrub is native to Madagascar, it can be found growing in rocky areas. Besides its unique looks, what makes the plant one of our favourites is its adaptive and super low-demanding nature. It is very rewarding for its beautiful blooms. It can be a perfect addition to hanging baskets and rock gardens. This succulent has a trailing or mounding growth habit and looks great in hanging baskets. Kalanchoe pumila has an important role in traditional medicine. Some say that this plant can treat inflammation, bleeding, wounds, heart diseases, allergies, viral infections, or digestive problems.
Light:
Kalanchoe pumila is a succulent that tolerates well direct sun exposure only in the mornings, if we leave it to get the sun all day long, we will cause its leaves to suffer from burns. We can also place it in a semi-shade.
Water:
It is necessary to water it when the substrate is dry and that it is a deep watering, that is to say until we see that the water comes out of the drainage holes of its pot. watering it once a week will be more than enough
Temperature:
You just have to take care of it a lot of cold and especially frost, as it does not support them, so if in the area where you live the temperature drops more than 50 °F (10 ° C) is better to protect it to avoid losing it.
Soil:
A kalanchoe plant grows best in well-drained, sandy soil.
Pruning:
Pinching back the stems of a kalanchoe plant will help maintain its shape and promote more robust blooming.
Propagating Kalanchoe:
Kalanchoe is very simple to propagate, and doing so is actually beneficial to the plant’s health. As a mature kalanchoe grows, it produces offsets that can be taxing on the mother plant.
1. Cut a segment of stem several inches long from a mature plant using a sharp clean knife or clippers. If using an offset, remove it at the joint where it connects to the parent plant.
2. Allow the cutting to dry out for a few days, or until the end appears to have healed shut and calloused over.
3. Plant the cutting in soil comprised of the same mixture used to grow the mother plant.
