The Ficus genus belongs to the family of mulberry plants or Moraceae, and it’s the most popular indoor tree species for Bonsai beginners. Ficus Bonsai Trees are mainly tropical plants growing throughout south-eastern Asia. There are many species of Ficus. Ones found commonly in bonsai include Retusa, Religiosa, Carica, Benjamina and others. Ficus produce glossy, waxy leaves which are long lasting. They can feature aerial roots from the trunk and branches.Ficus bonsai trees are quite tolerant of low levels of light. Having said that, they should still be placed in a bright location. It is recommended that some sunlight shines in through a window and actually hits the leaves of the tree. A south facing window is good. East and west facing windows are also acceptable.
Water:
Ficus prefer moist soil. It is important that this is well drained, it does not want to sit in a pool of water.
Soil:
The soil should be well drained and fertile rich in organic content.
Sunlight:
The ficus should be positioned outside or near window in a sunny or semi-shaded place. Keep the plant indoor or outdoor with 3 to 5 hours of sunlight.
Fertilizer:
During the main growing season feed the organic fertilizer once a month. Loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the plant so it can uptake the nutrients and moisture easily.
Temperature:
The plant can die if the temperature in the room is less than 8 degrees. And the temperature of fewer than 15 degrees will cause the plant to deteriorate considerably in appearance. “Panda” feels great at temperatures from 17 to 22 degrees. If the room temperature is slightly higher, you will need to increase the humidity.
Humidity:
The plant needs high humidity. To increase this value, it is possible to carry out systematic spraying or install a humidifier. Moisten the leaves can only be soft water. And it is better to take for this purpose melted, distilled or boiled water.
Propagation:
Cuttings can be planted at any time of the year, but they have the highest success rate during mid-summer growth. Air-layering will work best during spring, in April through May. In most cases, springtime is the best time for planting Ficus seeds.
