One of the most popular houseplants, this easy growing plant with its heart shaped leaves that have holes in the leaf blade is a crowd favourite. Broken heart philodendron botanically called as monstera adansonii, is the native to central America. It is a member of the Araceae family. The average length of Broken heart plant is 15 cm.
Light:
It is essentially an indoor plant that can also be used as wall cover in the shady areas of your garden space. The Philodendron Broken Heart thrives in bright indirect light but it can grow well in full shade too.
Water:
Water twice a week. You should aim for the soil to remain damp, not soggy or dry
Soil:
Soil should be a well-draining and it is best to use peat-based soil combined.
Fertilizer:
A liquid fertilizer diluted at half strength will be beneficial used once monthly from spring to summer.
Temperature and Humidity:
Make sure your plant always remains in a spot that’s above 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and protect it from drafts. A humidity level above 50% is ideal. A warm, well-lit bathroom is a good spot for this plant. If you need to increase humidity, mist the plant or use a humidifier in its space.
Propagation:
- Wait Until the Growing Season To Begin Propagating
- Take 5-7 Inch Stem Cuttings With at Least 2 Nodes on Each
- Plant Each Cutting in a Pre-Prepared Pot & Water Generously
- Allow a Few Weeks for Development & Refrain From Fertilizer Use
- It will take a few weeks for the roots to properly develop from your new stem cuttings, so expect to see some (slow) signs of growth up to a month after propagating.
Pruning:
The Swiss cheese plant is a climber, so it might need to be pruned if it begins to outgrow your space. Should you need to prune your Monstera Adansonii plant, aim to do so in the spring. Use sterile pruning shears to cut back stems by no more than 25 percent. Cut just before a leaf node. Also, remove any dead or damaged leaves as needed.
