Product Description:
Bamboo palms can take anything from part sun to full shade and are ideal in the filtered light of a house or apartment setting.This genus has more than 100 species to choose from. Most have lovely green pinnate leaves. A few varieties have smaller leaflets, and some have fused leaflets. Some, like the metallica palm, have blue and green metallic-looking foliage. Regardless of leaf size, most bamboo palms tend to stay fairly small. Native to the tropical and subtropical parts of Mexico and Central America.
Light:
Although a bamboo palm grows faster in Bright Indirect light it still does well in medium light.
Water:
The soil of bamboo palms should be kept evenly moist, but never waterlogged. Allow the top 1/3 of the soil of a bamboo palm to dry out before watering.
Soil:
Bamboo palms need a basic, well-drained potting soil that drains quickly but still retains moisture.
Fertilizer:
Feed a bamboo palm monthly in the spring and summer with a fertilizer high in nitrogen diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength.
Temperature:
A bamboo palm does well in temperatures between 65°- 80°F (18.3°- 26.7°C).
Humidity:
All palms, including bamboo palms, like high humidity but still do well in basic household humidity.
Pruning:
Cut brown leaf tips with a wet scissors, and remove bare stalks. Clean your plant tools in alcohol after using them to prevent spreading plant diseases from plant to plant.
Propagating Bamboo Palms:
Use a clean, sharp knife to separate offshoots from the mother plant. If the offshoots have their own root systems (which they should), ensure that you separate those as well. Pot the offshoots in loamy, well-draining soil and keep them in a consistently humid environment until established (approximately 2-3 months).
